Recognizing
the crucial need to prioritize the health at the national and state level, Governance
and Public Policy Initiative-Centre for Policy Research (GPPI-CPR) and Global
Health Strategies organized a roundtable on 2 August 2017 on “Prioritising
Child Health and Nutrition in India” to discuss the role of political
leaders in putting major public health issues such as Child Health and
Nutrition on the political agenda.
Dhruv Pahwa, Director – Market Access at
Global Health Strategies who has worked to develop access strategies for health
and nutrition related products, services and policies; and Ramanan
Laxminarayan, Director and Senior Fellow at the Center for Disease Dynamics,
Economics & Policy (CDDEP) in Washington, D.C., and a senior research
scholar and lecturer at the Princeton Environmental Institute at Princeton
University, discussed the topic in detail through their presentations on financing
healthcare, and how can to improve health in India without vastly increasing
spending.
The discussion was co-chaired by Ms Vandana Chavan, MP, Rajya Sabha and Mr Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, MP, Lok Sabha.
